Dusha Connection is a Viennese jazz ensemble known for its dynamic performances and innovative interpretations of classical compositions. The band’s name, “Dusha,” meaning “soul” in Slavic languages, reflects its core essence—connecting deeply with the emotional and spiritual dimensions of music. Drawing from a variety of influences, including traditional jazz and world music, Dusha Connection offers a sound that is both familiar and innovative.
Formation and Members
The ensemble was founded by Esad Halilović, a Serbian-born, Vienna-based drummer and composer with a deep passion for jazz and experimental music. As the group’s leader, Halilović infuses his extensive experience as a musician and educator into every performance, guiding the ensemble’s artistic direction. Joining him in the core lineup are pianist Urs Hager and bassist Clemens Rofner, both exceptional musicians who bring their unique backgrounds and influences to the band’s sound.
Urs Hager, born in 1996 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, is a gifted pianist with a background steeped in the jazz tradition. After studying at Kunstuniversität Graz, Hager has carved a name for himself as an innovative performer and composer. Clemens Rofner, the Austrian bassist, known for his mastery of both upright and electric bass. Rofner has performed extensively across Europe, Asia, and North America, bringing a rich and diverse musical perspective to the group.

Merak (2016)
This debut album marked a fresh take on the jazz genre, blending the traditional with the contemporary. With its release at the iconic Porgy & Bess jazz club in Vienna, Merak received critical acclaim for its inventive approach to jazz, offering listeners a captivating mix of melodies and rhythms that reflect the band’s diverse musical influences.
Invisible Bridges (2020)
A collaboration with Austrian saxophonist Wolfgang Puschnig, this album is a further exploration of the band’s eclectic sound. Presented once again at Porgy & Bess, Invisible Bridges saw the group push its musical boundaries, incorporating new textures and styles that have earned them a place on international stages.
Outside – A Tribute To Erik S. (2023)
This tribute album reimagines the works of French composer Erik Satie, blending his classical compositions with the band’s contemporary jazz approach. The album features eight reworked versions of Satie’s pieces, showing Dusha Connection’s ability to bridge the worlds of classical and modern jazz with unique interpretations.
